City of Edinburgh Council schools are part of the Empowered Learning programme, which provides iPads for learners. Each child in P6 and P7 has access to a school Empowered Learning iPad to support their learning and assessment. Each child in P1-5 will have opportunities to access a shared Empowered Learning iPad as part of their learning and assessment on a regular basis.
More information about Empowered Learning can be found here.
The video below provides an overview of the use of Empowered Learning iPads in primary schools.
Digital Safety and Digital Literacy
A significant part of our use of iPads is to educate learners on responsible use of technology to keep themselves and others safe and secure when online. We require learners and parents to sign the City of Edinburgh Responsible Use Contract in P6 and P7, and we educate our learners in P1-5 about the same guidelines and rules.
Throughout the school session, learners will receive input around keeping themselves safe online through a variety of curricular areas. This might include digital and critical literacy as part of Literacy and Languages, digital safety as part of Technologies, and personal digital safety as part of Health and Wellbeing.
